Classes

One class for all ages and levels

We train as one unified group, where children, teens and adults practice together. Beginners learn from more experienced students, families can train together, and everyone develops at their own pace under the instructor's guidance.

Classes run Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Oxford Heights Community Club in Transcona. Each session covers warm-up and conditioning, basics (kihon), forms (kata), pad work and, as students progress, supervised sparring (kumite).

Students develop

  • Confidence
  • Discipline
  • Respect
  • Coordination
  • Fitness
  • Self-defense skills

FAQ

Questions from parents and new students

Do you have separate classes for kids and adults?

Not at this time. Everyone trains together in one class. Training is adapted to each student's age, experience and ability, so children, teens and adults all practice safely while receiving instruction appropriate for their level.

What age can my child start?

We generally welcome children from 6 years old who are able to follow instructions and participate independently. If you are unsure whether your child is ready, contact us and we will be happy to discuss it.

Does my child need previous karate experience?

Not at all. Many of our students begin with no martial arts experience. Beginners are always welcome and learn step by step alongside more experienced students.

Is Kyokushin Karate safe for children?

Safety is our priority. Students learn proper technique, discipline, respect and self-control before intensity increases. Training is supervised by the instructor, and exercises are adjusted to each student's age and ability.

What should we wear for the first class?

Comfortable athletic clothing, such as a T-shirt and sweatpants or shorts, is perfect for the first lesson. A karate uniform (gi) is not required to try a class.

Can parents stay and watch?

Yes. Parents are welcome to observe classes, especially during the first few visits, so both you and your child can feel comfortable.

How often should students train?

We recommend attending all three weekly classes whenever possible. Consistent practice helps students improve their technique, confidence and physical fitness.

Will my child have to fight?

No one is forced to spar. Students develop gradually: beginners first learn basic techniques, movement and control before any partner drills. Sparring is introduced progressively, with protective gear, under instructor supervision.

What will students learn?

Kyokushin training develops:

  • Confidence
  • Respect and discipline
  • Focus and concentration
  • Physical fitness
  • Coordination and balance
  • Perseverance
  • Self-defense skills
  • Goal setting through belt progression
How much does it cost?

Membership is $120 per month for unlimited training (3 classes per week). We also offer a family discount: 2 family members pay $200 per month, and 3 family members pay $300 per month. Your first class is free.

Can I try a class first?

Yes. We encourage new students to visit the dojo, meet the instructor and experience a class before joining. Book your free trial below or message us on WhatsApp.

Is Kyokushin only for athletic people?

Absolutely not. Students join us with different fitness levels and abilities. Everyone progresses at their own pace, and every improvement is celebrated. The goal is to become a better version of yourself, not to compete with others.

What makes Winterpeg Dojo different?

We are a welcoming community where students of different ages train together, support one another and grow physically and mentally. Our focus is not only strong karate technique, but also confidence, discipline, perseverance and lifelong respect.
